5 BEST Leopard Gecko Slurry Recipes [For ANY Age]

Slurries are a great way to supplement a Leopard Gecko’s diet. They can provide your Leopard Gecko with a lot of nutrients but will also keep them hydrated. Slurries will not only engage your gecko’s metabolism but they will also help your lizard stay healthy and will strengthen their immune system.

Leopard Geckos are insectivores lizards, which means they can only eat insects, therefore do NOT add any fruits, veggies, dairy products or lactose derivatives into a Leopard Gecko’s slurry.

Before we get to the actual recipes, make sure to follow these instructions for better use and results.

Slurry Preparation & Storage Instructions

Slurries are super EASY to prepare. In fact, the reason I decided to write this article is not because people don’t know how to prepare slurries for their Leopard Geckos, but because there are simply no resources with slurry recipes on the web.

Nevertheless, I still believe that it is very important to be aware of a few tips and tricks when preparing and storing slurries for Leopard Geckos.

  • When preparing a slurry for your Leopard Gecko, I highly suggest that you use a blender for a smooth, liquid texture.
  • Slurry mixtures may stink, but your reptile will love the smell and taste. These mixtures are healthy and easy to digest.
  • Use dechlorinated water or electrolyte water rather than tap water.
  • I also suggest that you use dried insects (crickets, grasshoppers, dubia roaches) instead of live ones, mainly because they’re easier to handle. It is also good alternative for people who dislike touching bugs/insects or simply do not want to keep live bugs in their homes.
  • Make sure to soak the dried insects in water for 20-30 minutes. Rehydrated bugs and insects are easier to blend and help with a better absorption of nutrients.
  • Use any type of worms that are appropriate for Gecko diets such as Mealworms, Butterworms, Superworms, Silk worms, Waxworms, Hornworms.
  • Keep an open mind; you do not have to use the same brand or product as the ones listed below, but I do recommended to only use high quality products.
  • Add all the ingredients into the blender and mix them until you get a liquid consistency without chunks.
  • Adult Geckos can be fed with 1-3 ml syringe, while Babies can be fed with 0.5 ml syringe.
  • Portion the remains in ice cube bags or in the ice cube tray. Store them in the freezer and take out the slurry cubes one at a time. They’ll remain fresh and you can safely use them for few days.
  • Slurries do not replace medication. Slurries are intended to supplement and improve captive Gecko diets by adding diversity, nourishing ingredients, vitamins and minerals.
